Department is a main unit of the Rakovski National Defence College with a mission to organize specialized training of military personnel for participation in peacekeeping operations in UN, NATO and EU missions. The Department organizes and conducts courses for postgraduate qualification and improving the language training of the specialists. The Department develops ALCPT tests and exams according to STANAG 6001 in English, French, Russian and Bulgarian languages. The Department maintains capabilities for conducting computer-assisted exercises, simulations and modelling, administers and coordinates distance learning conducted by the major units of the Rakovski National Defence College.

The Department supports wide international cooperation, being the leading organization on Erasmus+ project for Strategic Partnerships in Higher Education called „HYBRIDISATION OF SPECIALIZED ENGLISH LEARNING FOR SECURITY PROFESSIONALS“, together with the National Military University of Sweden and the Military Academy of Portugal.
