Divisional Staff Training Course Design

At Rakovski National Defence College, the first Divisional Staff Training Course Design was conducted with the participation of 30 service members from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria. The event was jointly planned and organised by the College, the British Land Warfare Centre, and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Bulgaria, and was delivered by two British Army Majors — marking an important step in deepening professional military cooperation between the United Kingdom and Bulgaria.

The course was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of NATO operational frameworks, with a particular focus on Army and Corps-level operations. Participants received in-depth instruction on the structure, functions, and employment of a division in contemporary warfare.

Throughout the week, the training was characterised by a high level of professionalism, engagement, and practical focus. Through interactive sessions, scenario-based learning, and open dialogue, a dynamic learning environment was created. Feedback from the Bulgarian participants highlighted the high value of the course in enhancing operational understanding and interoperability within NATO structures.

The closing ceremony was attended by Colonel Anton Bankov, PhD, Deputy Commandant for Administration and Logistics; Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Walker, UK Defence Attaché to Bulgaria; and Mr. Tsvetan Tsvetkov, Director of the Defence Human Resources Management Directorate at the Ministry of Defence.

This course represents the beginning of a broader initiative to support divisional-level education and development within the Bulgarian Armed Forces.
